About us

Our story

Native Montreal was established in 2014 with the mission to contribute to the holistic health, cultural strength and success of Indigenous families, individuals, and community living in the greater Montreal area. While there were other indigenous organizations in the city, most were focused on the homeless or at-risk populations. We were created to be a safe place for youth, family services and more. In 2015 we became a member of the national and provincial friendship center movements by becoming members of the RCAAQ and the NAFC. By doing so, we pledged to uphold friendship center values and are now part of the biggest Indigenous non-profit associations, with 13 other friendship centers in Québec and 111 centers across Canada.

Indigenous self-determination

Native Montreal was created to be a space for Indigenous self-determination, so our center was founded by Indigenous people to service Indigenous people. This is why our governance is Indigenous and our organisation has Indigenous values guiding us in our daily work. Our organisation is led by our members, who use a model of governance based off Indigenous values and non-profit best practices. We are non partisan, and inclusive of all Indigenous perspectives.

Advocacy

We consult our members to better understand their specific and common needs and issues. We use this information to educate and inform different stakeholders and ensure our community's needs and challenges are understood and advocated for in public forums.

A wide array of services

We offer services that aim to support and empower our community members. Our community is very diverse, with multiple Indigenous cultures, age groups, and life experiences. Our goal is to offer a wide array of services, activities and events, so our member,'s can always find something for them or their growing family.
