Indigenize Montréal

Indigenize Montreal

October 20 to 25, 2017 - Hall Viger, Palais des Congrès de Montréal

Come and discover a future metropolis of Reconciliation through Indigenous design and architecture!

Montréal was founded on an unceded Indigenous territory. Currently, there are more than 25,000 Indigenous people from different nations living in Montréal. Unlike other cities in the world, Indigenous culture is absent from the built environement of this future metropolie of Reconciliation. Indigenize Montréal is a public exhibition that takes place during the World Design Summit. It explores how to ensure the presence of Indigenous culture in the public space of the city.

The theme of the exhibition, "Elsewhere and Here", provides an opportunity to develop a new facet of urban indigenous identity. The Elsewhere section explores the stunning accomplishments of Indigenous culture in the design and architecture of cities accross Canada, America and the world. The Here section allows visitors to view concrete projects on how Montréal could be indigenized.
