SMART Recovery

The program SMART Recovery is non-religious and an abstinence based program, but those who have not yet chosen abstinence aren’t turned away. Abstinence is preferable, and the tools offered help best as a way to avoid using and abusing. The meeting is a self-help group facilitated by an indigenous volunteer, and the format allows for group discussion, referred to as cross-talk. This four point program works with it's members to

1) build and maintain the motivation

2) cope with urges

3) manage thoughts, feelings and behaviours,

4) live a balanced life.

This program is for Indigenous adults and members of Native Montreal living in the metropolitan urban area with a substance use problem or self-harming behavior.

The meetings take place every Friday, 3:00pm-4:30pm and are facilitated by Joel LaBillois.

Joel has lived in Montreal for several decades.  He is married, a father and is interrested in and cares for the Montreal urban Indigenous community.  Joel has been a SMART recovery facilitator for 2 years.
